“I was introduced to the work of artist Elizabeth DAngelo some time ago by a now-mutual friend who used a piece of Elizabeths art as the background for the design of her Facebook profile picture. I was intrigued by it, and it led me to Elizabeths profile on Redbubble, (http://www.redbubble.com/people/bethdangelo), where I found an amazing collection of representations of people, animals, and even mythical beings of Ms. DAngelos own creation. Our mutual friends birthday was coming up, so the idea came to create a series of paintings as a surprise gift for her.
As our friend is a strikingly beautiful woman, many photos of her were available online, and we assembled and curated them to make the final selection to be used as the basis of four 8-by-8-inch paintings. I have never met Elizabeth in person I live on the opposite coast — but our online collaboration on this project over a three-month period was a happy one, and the work arrived at our friend’s home in plenty of time for her birthday.
Elizabeth likes to know as much as she can about her subjects. She did research to determine our friend’s favorite things, so the result was far more than a simple collection of portraits. Our friend’s image was surrounded with the colors, animals, birds, plants and other features that she loves in a unique design that made each panel quintessentially her. The gift, when she opened it, was a huge success. Nothing quite like this had ever been done for her before.
Elizabeths work didn’t just add to our friends beauty in the paintings, but, in my opinion at least, actually multiplied it, taking it to a whole new level. Thats what Elizabeth does. It is almost impossible for a sensitive viewer to look at a DAngelo painting or design and not be greatly uplifted or deeply moved by it.”
